Frequently Asked Questions
Cyber Essentials is a self-assessment completed by you and a qualified assessor reviews and marks your answers. Cyber Essentials Plus goes further: a certified body, such as Delta, checks your systems to ensure the security measures are properly in place, giving a higher level of assurance.
You have 6 months from the date of gaining access to the IASME Portal within which to complete and pass the Cyber Essentials questionnaire.
Our assessors will leave feedback within the ‘assessor notes’ section of the portal, so you know what needs to be fixed.
At Delta, there's no extra charge for multiple submissions. Most customers need around 3 submissions to meet the standard.
You can have up to 2 major non-compliances and must avoid any automatic failures to pass.
If you don’t have a central network, you can define your network boundary by ensuring you use supported, active software-based firewalls on your devices. These typically come pre-installed with the operating system or are provided by trusted security vendors and help control inbound and outbound traffic, effectively acting as the perimeter for each individual device.
Yes. Any device—whether company-owned or personal (BYOD), including mobiles—that accesse organisational data or networks are in scope.
No, ISP supplied routers are not within scope.
All cloud services are within scope for Cyber Essentials.
If you don’t have an office firewall, the software firewall on each user’s device serves as your network boundary.
You must show how to set up or change the local administrator passwords on your devices, as these are used to manage the software firewalls.
Yes, fundamental processes such JML (Joiners, Movers, Leavers) are required for organisations of all sizes.
Cyber Essentials is valid for 12 months and must be renewed annually.
